How I create textures for Unnamed and Untamed

There were questions how do I create clean textures for my Unnamed project; for a truck that is long gone and does not have any high quality pictures available, so I thought I demonstrate my workflow.

I use two different software, Blender and Substance Painter. Blender is 3D-modelling software, I modeled whole truck with it. Substance is texturing software, I created final skin with it.

First step is to get clean decals. As there is none available, I have to create them myself. I trace them over those few existing pictures, best I could. I don't know how to use any vector software, so I just do this step in Blender, just creating flat faces over original picture and smoothing it to hell and back.

Here you can see how text is just 3D-models. That gradient is from texture I created, just gradient from yellow to orange mapped to that 3D-lettering. For this simple lettering it works great, airbrushed details à la Grave Digger would be impossible. But Unnamed was always primitive build, here we can create everything with this method.

Sometimes it is bit hard to distinguish what original letters was supposed to be. Here we can conclude from context, but some smaller sponsor stickers etc. are lost I think.

In similar manner I created whole side covering waves of '93 paintjob.

I rendered them all out in 4K and created library. They are all available in here, licence is public domain for textures itself: HERE  Remember that Sturges Motorsport owns name, so you cant commercially produce them, but for your own use feel free to print them as sticker for your RC or any other use.

Then in Substance Painter I can create brush from those decals and just one click paint them on truck's mesh.

"Click"

Very easy and fast after all that preparation of decals. However I have to fix little things like door seams by hand, but is easy part when basic texture is ready.

In same manner I could just spam logos in anywhere I want.
